Welcome to The Irish Dissociative!
This website has been created to start a conversation, spread awareness and find support for individuals suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). DID is a trauma based disorder resulting from abuse in early childhood. Trauma treatment in Ireland is very limited with professionals often lacking sufficient training to help those affected. There are no specific trauma based or DID support groups in Ireland, however, they are badly needed.
On this website I will be documenting my experiences, thoughts and feelings surrounding life with a diagnosis of DID. Consequently, I will discuss my experiences with the Irish mental health system. I go by the alias of JF to maintain anonymity. It also facilitates the sharing of more intimate details and experiences. I will share the truth but in slightly edited versions to preserve the identity of those in my experiences and also to protect myself.
I hope this website can provide hope that you are not alone and maybe make you feel a little less crazy. I am in the process of trying to start a support group (zoom or in-person) for people living with dissociative disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder or other trauma based conditions. Please get in contact if you would like updates on future support groups.
There’s only one way we can make this change…
Let’s talk about it
JF
